Yoga for Pregnancy

Yoga for pregnancy is safe and appropriate exercise, breathing and relaxation techniques to support you throughout your pregnancy, labour and birth. No previous experience of yoga is necessary.

The courses consist of:

  • yoga postures which are suitable for 2nd and 3rd trimesters
  • building strength and flexibility
  • breathing exercises for pregnancy and labour
  • pelvic floor work
  • deep relaxation
  • visualisation
  • movement /breathing to help with common ailments during pregnancy, e.g. sciatica, varicose veins, heartburn, pelvic girdle pain, emotional ups and downs, sleeplessness

There is the opportunity for discussion during the sessions on issues related to pregnancy.

These courses complement NCT / parentcraft classes. They do not have the same content, in particular the techniques for labour.

You will need to bring a non-slip yoga mat, 2 cushions or pillows and a blanket or something to cover yourself with to be comfortable for the relaxation time at the end of the class.

There is a library of books, handouts and dvd's which can be borrowed.

You can commence pregnancy yoga classes from 14 weeks. Courses are on going so it is possible to join part way through a course if there is space. Please contact Nicki to enquire, and please let your doctor / midwife know that you are attending pregnancy yoga classes.
