What is Yoga?

Yoga originated in India around 2000BCE. One interpretation of yoga is 'union' of the body, breath and mind which brings harmony and balance to the whole body. The practice of yoga consists of asanas (postures), breathing (pranayama), deep relaxation and occasionally meditation.


What do I need to bring to a yoga class?

A yoga mat ( I am happy to lend mats, however if you intend to carry on with the yoga class it is more hygienic to have your own mat)

Cushion or block for spinal alignment

Blanket for deep relaxation

Wear layers of loose comfortable clothing that do not restrict movement or breathing

A bottle of water may be useful

Please note that for safety yoga is normally practiced in bare feet


When should I eat?

You should allow 4 hours after a heavy meal and 2 hours after a light meal before you practice yoga. During pregnancy however, you may find that you need to eat little and often. Therefore allow 1-2 hours depending on how much you have eaten.


Health Issues

I will ask you to complete a confidential health questionnaire, so that I can ensure that you practise safely. Please ask advice from your GP / consultant if there are any particular health concerns before starting yoga. I am available to discuss any concerns with you before or after the class.
